Life is short - make it sweet

I was surfing the net and came across a thread on Quora where people shared regrets about not doing the things they should have when they should have. Here’s one from Tim O’pry:

I have but one regret – the time I did not spend with my children when they were young. I was the typical type A, work-obsessed American male operating under the false belief that working hard to improve our financial security was my primary goal and responsibility.

I was wrong.

That time is lost, and while I cannot get it back, I do tell my children (and any others that ask when this topic comes up) that I am sorry I made that choice and to not repeat my mistake (and yes, I made a course correction once I got my priorities straight).

Since I am very fortunate to have a kind, caring, and forgiving wife for the past 38+ years, our children turned out OK. But, when we look through pictures of those years, there is something noticeably absent – me.

Should you choose to have children, they need to be your priority. The sporting and school events, family outings, and simply time not spent with them can make a significant difference in your children — and you.”

In the end we regret the chances we didn't take

This story is about a man who wasted so much time with work that he missed important family moments. He spent so much time chasing financial security instead of cementing his relationship with his children and his wife. Although, he was fortunate enough to have an early wake-up call to rethink about life, his choices, and think about spending more time with his family, and luckily, there was no long term damage to repair, he still has to live with this regret for the rest of his life. There will always be a reminder that he chose his work over his family. There will always be a reminder that for a period, he was noticeably absent in their life. So much wasted time that he cannot get back.  Do you sometimes also think: “I waste so much time“?

Joy of live

“There isn’t time, so brief is life, for bickerings, apologies, heartburnings, callings to account. There is only time for loving, and but an instant, so to speak, for that.” – Mark Twain.

For a lot of us, our stories may not be similar to the above one, but we have wasted one too many minutes focusing on the small things instead of living a happy life and finding your Ikigai. This post seeks to help you find your way towards doing the right thing and finding your way back, so this is a well-curated list of motivational quotes for success to motivate you to make the most of your life. These short quotes are inspirational quotes that will remind you that there is still much to look forward to, so try to make them a part of your life.

Life is Too Short not to Live Your Best life

“One must give value to their existence by behaving as if one’s very existence were a work of art.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche.

Give value to existence as if it were a work of art

It is easy to lose sight of what we find important. Responsibilities will get in the way. You will make sacrifices. All of this is not your fault; it is all part of the cycle of life. Most of us are preprogrammed to fall into a loop of worrying about small things. When you begin to worry like this, you miss life as it passes you and at the end, you realize all the waste of perfect happiness your life has been.

Sometimes, it may take a very life-changing experience – occasionally bad – to shake you and make you realize there is more to happiness than a constant loop of bills, worry, and anxiety.

“Life is too short to be little. Man is never so manly as when he feels deeply, acts boldly, and expresses himself with frankness and with fervor.” – Benjamin Disraeli.

There is no guarantee of tomorrow; nobody knows what the next day promises, and we can’t hit pause, replay or rewind. You need to learn how to embrace life because life is short. If there was ever a moment to do things that matter to you and have gratitude for your life, the time is now.

Do More of What You Love

“Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Make your dreams come true

The easiest way to live your best life is to live the life you’ve always dreamed for yourself. Do more of the things you love with the people you love. Rebuild your connection to the world, and you will, little by little, find yourself living an authentic life.

Here’s what happens when you begin to live your dreams:

1 -You begin to see it everywhere: Once you commit to living your dreams, and doing what you love, the blinders from your eyes fall out, and you begin to see opportunities everywhere you look. You will reach the point of no return here, as nothing becomes impossible for you to do anymore.

“Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.” ― Wayne Dyer.

2 – You will live energetically: You are living the life that you want – a life fueled by purpose, so you have unlocked a wellspring of energy. No longer will you have to perform tasks by sheer will and determination alone, the love for the things you do will drive you.

“Energy is equal to desire and purpose.” – Sheryl Adams.

3- You will anticipate the future rather than worry about it: Every day is a step closer than the last to living your ideal life, so you have so much to look forward to. You are no longer actively chasing happiness because it is inside you; it is in everything you do, and with every person you meet.

Find a Job that You Love

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” – Confucius.

Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day

You are getting tired of your job because it saps all of your strength. You no longer have time for your children. Your partner keeps complaining that you’re never around and miss their big moments. You don’t even have time for yourself anymore; when was the last time you took a vacation with the family or close friends? All your life revolves around a job that doesn’t give you happiness.

“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.” – Maya Angelou.

Pursue the things you love

Life is too short to waste doing a job that you detest. If this sounds like you, or you have been toying with the idea of a career change for a long time and have been too afraid to, this might be the best time for you to switch careers.

Are you a creator? Do you feel like an Influencer or Entrepreneur inside? Start your own online business. Be a freelance creative. Start your blog. Work remotely from home. You feed two birds with one seed this way.

Now you are doing the job you love, and you are creating time to do the things you love with the people you love as well. Isn’t that the life that you dream for yourself?

“Doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life.” – Wayne Dyer.

Do what you love

You don’t have to miss your child’s school performance or a sports game. Your partner will no longer complain that you forgot an important anniversary. You have time to take trips and vacations to places that you love. You have more time to focus on yourself – join the gym, take up yoga, meditate, take up a new hobby, jog every morning; basically, treat your body and your health better. There are a thousand and one options from which you can choose.

“Is life not a thousand times too short for us to bore ourselves?”– Friedrich Nietzsche

Life is too short to bore ourselves

In summary, life is too short not to live doing the things that matter to you. Learn to embrace new opportunities as they come; be present, so you don’t miss anything precious while you are stuck living in your head; find balance – work hard, but don’t forget to play hard as well; take good care of yourself; worry less, and most importantly, live your life for YOU!
